3 Steps To Experiencing God’s Glory
We have been focusing on the truth of Matthew 6:33, “Seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness” first! There are three verses found in Exodus 33 that I believe show us how this progression of growth must be lived out in our lives.
In verse 13, Moses says to God, “If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you.” Isn’t this the very 1st step in our spiritual growth? –To know God– For a brief moment, reflect on your relationship with God. Do you really know Him? Or, do you merely know “about” Him? If you were to describe a friend or relative very close to you, you would be able to include more than merely details like their age, the color of their hair, etc. Those are simply facts and details. Too often we are so easily caught up in believing that knowing about God is a substitute for actually knowing God.
Let’s move on to verse 15 where we read that Moses says, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Next, the 2nd step in our spiritual growth, having a relationship with God Almighty creates within us a desire to never be out of that relationship. Our spirits yearn for, not only knowing God but, being in His presence. Yes, it is true, God is everywhere and is always with us but there is a definite difference. Picture yourself entering a large banquet room filled with hundreds of people whom you have never met and have absolutely nothing in common with. Then, suddenly your eyes focus to see your dearest and closest friend in life smiling at you and waiting to spend time with you. The comfort, the joy, the sensations of security and belonging are all encompassed by the simple truth that you are in the presence of one who truly loves you.
Then in verse 18 Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” Herein lies the 3rd step in the natural progression you will experience as you grow in the Lord. First, you get to know God. Second, you enjoy and yearn for His Presence. Third, you experience His glory working throughout all areas and in every smallest detail of your life! Oh, to know Him. Oh, to have Him near. And, oh, how great to experience the confidence to boldly approach His throne and see His glory displayed through your life as a mighty, unchallengeable witness to everyone around you!
