Your Greatest Asset Is…
There is so much that goes on in this world to bring us fear that we can subconsciously begin to feel that fear is a normal part of many situations. We must look beyond earthly reasoning and see what fear is in the spiritual realm. The following is an incredible explanation on fear from a devotional I read.
“Fear isn’t just a reaction to external circumstances. It’s a spiritual force that begins inside a person and is totally destructive. It is satan’s primary weapon. He moves in response to fear just as God moves in response to faith. It wasn’t the wind that defeated Peter and caused him to sink; it was his fear of it.” (Faith to Faith, June 3)
Your greatest asset to resist fear is your faith. Your faith is developed by meditating on God’s Word (Rom. 10:17). As you meditate on God’s Word, learn to speak what God says is true for you as His child, as one who is in Christ seated at the right hand of God Himself, as one approaches the Throne of Grace with confidence to “receive mercy for our failures and find grace to help in good times for every need—appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it. (Heb. 4:16 Amplified).”
Speak what God says as true in His Word as opposed to what your circumstances are or what people are saying. If you allow your mind to repeatedly turn to the lies that satan is speaking, fear will develop. Instead, commit to use the Sword of the Spirit—the Scriptures– and speak the Words of God over your life. His Words are the truth for your situation. 2 Tim. 1:7 God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions [forces of evil] and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. John 14:13,14 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
